ChatGPT vs Claude vs Grok for Business: Why I Use All Three
ChatGPT vs Claude vs Grok for business? I run all three every day. Where each one is great, where each one screws up, and why picking only one is the mistake.
I get asked this all the time. ChatGPT vs Claude vs Grok for business, which one do I buy?
My honest answer is kind of annoying. I use all three. Every day. At the same time, on the same work. And I think the “which one” question is the wrong question.
But you asked, so here’s my take on each one. This is from using them for real, not from benchmark charts.
Claude
Claude’s my favorite and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. It’s the best writer of the three for me, by a lot. It’s also the one I trust most to build things. Most of the software I’ve built in the last year, Claude wrote with me.
It’s careful. Sometimes too careful, it’ll push back or want to double check things when you just want it to go. But I’d rather have the employee who asks one too many questions than the one who confidently does the wrong thing.
Small businesses are catching on too. Bluevine saw Claude users among its small business customers grow 729% in a year.
ChatGPT
I actually stopped using ChatGPT for a long stretch after I switched to Claude. Came back to it this year and it’s really good again. It’s a strong analyst. Great at research, great at chewing through a pile of info and telling you what matters. Best all-arounder for most people honestly.
It’s also the one most of your team is already using on their phone, whether you know about it or not. (More on that in your team is already winging it.)
Grok
Grok is the blunt one. Fewer guardrails, less hedging, more willing to just tell you what it thinks. That makes it the best devil’s advocate of the three. When I want somebody to poke holes in a plan, Grok’s who I ask.
It’s also really good for images and video, which matters more than you’d think if you do any marketing.
Downside is the same as the upside. Blunt isn’t always right, and it’ll say the wrong thing with a lot of confidence too.
What about Gemini?
I’ve tried it. Didn’t stick for me. Lots of people like it, and if your company lives in Google everything it might be your pick. I just haven’t found a job where it beats the other three.
Why I don’t pick just one
Ok here’s the real reason I run three.
They catch each other’s mistakes. Any one model will be wrong with total confidence sometimes. When a second model from a different company checks the work, a lot of that stuff gets caught before it hits a customer. Models from different companies screw up in different ways, that’s the whole point.
They’re good at different jobs. Same as people. You don’t hire one person to write, analyze and play devil’s advocate.
You’re not locked in. The “best” model changes every few months. Whoever’s on top today might be third by summer. If your whole business is built around one vendor, every time the leaderboard shuffles you’re stuck.
And honestly the leash matters. If one company changes its pricing or its rules or just has a bad week, you’ve got other options already running.
I’m not going to lay out how I get them working together, that’s the stuff I set up for clients. But the idea’s simple. Treat them like a team, give each one the jobs it’s best at, and make them check each other. That’s what I mean when I say run AI like a staff, and it’s a big reason most AI agents for sales teams flop when one model is doing everything with nobody checking.
So what should you buy?
If you’re just starting and want one, ChatGPT is the easiest on-ramp for most teams. If your team writes a lot or you want to build things, Claude. If you want somebody to argue with you, Grok.
But if you’re serious about AI doing real work in your business, the answer is more than one, with rules about what goes where. If you want help figuring out which jobs go to which model, that’s part of the AI Staff Audit.
Frequently asked questions
Which is better for business, ChatGPT, Claude or Grok?
Depends on the job. In my experience Claude is the strongest writer and builder, ChatGPT is a great all-around analyst, and Grok is blunt and the best one to argue with you. The real answer is use more than one.
Is it expensive to pay for more than one AI?
Usually no. The business plans for these run a few bucks to a few hundred a month depending on use, which is nothing next to the cost of one bad decision that a second model would’ve caught.
Should my company standardize on one AI?
Standardize on rules, who can use what and what’s allowed to go in. Don’t lock the whole company into one vendor. The leaderboard changes every few months.
